Interview about Hair Transplantation with Dr. Wilker Juliani

We talked to Dr. Wilker Juliani from Colombia, about the most frequently asked questions about hair transplantation. Here is our interview with the doctor about the safety of hair transplantation clinics and things to consider in hair transplant operations;

  1. Could you talk about your experience in the field?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: I graduated in Medicine in 2017, and then I started to deepen my knowledge in the Hair Area. Currently I have performed over 1000 hair transplant surgeries, and with that, I have a very large experience in the area. I have very high density results, which is what I like to do the most. Despite the experience, I learn more every day, trying to improve my technique more and more, thus giving better results for my patients.

  2. What are the risks of having a non-physician performing hair transplant surgery?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: Hair transplantation is not just about extracting and implanting follicles. There are many risks that the patient can run doing the surgery with non-medical people, both for the success or not of the surgery, as well as for emergency cases that can even lead the patient to death.

  3. What are the factors for a successful hair transplant operation?

    Surgery Factors:
    • Quality of follicle extraction.
    • Time that the follicle is out of the body below 6 hours.
    • Temperature that the follicle is stored between 0 and 4°C.
    • Density of follicles per cm² that the surgeon can do.

    Patient Factors
    • Thickness of the patient's hair.
    • Coefficient of hairs per follicle
•Size of the Area to be covered

  4. Are hair transplant results permanent?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: The transplanted hairs will not fall permanently due to the effect of DHT, as they are removed from a safe area.

  5. Does the patient need procedure again after a while?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: Yes. If not treated properly, the patient's baldness can constantly advance, thus dropping the native hairs susceptible to fall and leaving only the hairs from the first Transplant, which will require a new surgery to fill the new bald area.

  6. Which patient profile is suitable for transplantation?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: Patients who already have a degree of baldness that cannot be recovered with drug treatment and who have sufficient Donor Area to provide desirable coverage.

  7. How should the patients choose the right clinic and right doctor?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: Research a lot. See results of patients who have already undergone surgery with the professional in question. Give preference to results videos. Disregard photos from the front or inside the car. Give preference to the doctor over clinics. Run away from places that make surgeries production line (3, 4 or more surgeries at the same time). Don't just choose the price, quality is the most important and if the donor area is destroyed, there is no way to recover.

  8. Would you like to add anything else?

Dr. Wilker Juliani: Hair transplantation has the power to change people's lives, it was never just hair, every psychosocial part of the patient changes after the transplant, and this is very important to me. That's why I also recommend always researching well with who will undergo the hair transplantation, because if the result of the surgery is bad, this can further harm the patient who was already shaken.
